Jul 18, 07 10:13 AMBatteries? Who Needs them?
This past weekend, my brother and I went nuts trying to get some AA batteries for his digital camera before attending an important event. It took us 30 minutes, three gas stations and a stationary store before we found the right size.
If only his camera worked like Farfromboring's SOLSTICE EMERGENCY LIGHT / RADIO. This item can be powered by both a hand crank or with solar power.
Farfromboring has several hand/solar powered promotional items. These items are wonderful to have incase of an emergency, to pack on your next camping trip, or if you just want to become more eco-friendly.
Did you know that batteries are regarded as the most expensive energy source? I've learned more about batteries on earth911.org. According to their site:
The U.S. EPA estimates that more than 350 million rechargeable batteries are purchased annually in the United States. Batteries are a unique product comprised of heavy metals and other elements that make things "portable". Some of these toxic heavy metals include nickel cadmium, alkaline, mercury, nickel metal hydride and lead acid. It is these elements that can threaten our environment if not properly discarded.
Batteries may produce the following potential problems or hazards:
- Pollute the lakes and streams as the metals vaporize into the air when burned.
- Contribute to heavy metals that potentially may leach from solid waste landfills.
- Expose the environment and water to lead and acid.
- Contain strong corrosive acids.
- May cause burns or danger to eyes and skin.
So, save your time and the environment and speak with a Farfromboring.com representative to find out more about our solar/hand powered products.
