Eco Friendly Work Place

One of the best ways all of us can help preserve our environment is to purchase, use and reuse products made of recycled and biodegradable materials.

Be aware of what it is you’re storing or packing and how you’re choosing to do it.
Use re-usable containers to pack snacks and lunches.  Use a re-usable lunch or cooler bag to store and carry all your items.  With the many different styles and sizes to choose from you can find just the right ones to fit inside your carrying case to keep food from getting squished or crushed while in transit.

Whenever possible use as many re-usable items as possible and whatever waste you do produce make sure it’s biodegradable.  Replace paper napkins and plastic utensils with cloth napkins and bamboo or stainless steel cutlery.  Pack healthier snacks that don’t require any additional packaging such as apples or bananas.  Use durable and re-usable biodegradable corn resin laptop containers with separated food compartments and a fitted lid to keep food secured and fresh until you’re ready to eat.

Mind your BPA's

For years and years we’ve had and used products that are made from or contain Bisphenol A and it is still currently being used in various ways.  It is a main monomer, a small molecule that can become chemically bonded to other monomers forming a polymer, in the production of the clear polycarbonate plastic commonly used to make baby and water bottles.

Bisphenol A has been known to leach from the plastic lining of canned foods and some polycarbonate plastics cleaned with harsh detergents or those containing acidic or high-temperature liquids.

There are seven classes of plastics used in packaging but types 1 (PET), 2 (HDPE), 4 (LDPE), 5 (polypropylene) and 6 (polystyrene) do not use Bisphenol A in packaging and will not leach Bisphenol A into foods or beverages.
Perfect for walking or hiking this 24 oz. polycarbonate bottle is BPA free, trimmed with stainless steel on top and bottom with a comfort grip, matching detachable fabric strap and screw-on stainless steel lid!

Eco Friendly Ideas to reduce Greenhouse Gases

Wondering how you can do your part to help reduce the emission of greenhouse gases into the atmosphere?  Change won't happen overnight but at the flip of a switch you can help fight global warming.

Unplug your cell phone charger, TV and other electronics when you are not using them.  Even when some electronic items are turned "off" they still use small amounts of energy.  Make it easy by having everything plugged into a surge protector with its own switch.

Turn off lights and other energy-sucking devices when they’re not in use.  Before turning on any electrical, oil or gas-powered machine, ask yourself:  "Is there another way to do this task?"  Be creative!

Well-placed landscaping cuts energy costs in summer and winter.  Trees should be placed so they will provide shade for your house and help it stay cool in the summer.  An even better idea is to plant fruit or nut trees, berry bushes, garden vegetables and herbs.

Why Energy Conservation is important

Due to limited amount of nonrenewable energy sources on Earth, it is important to conserve our current supply or use renewable sources in order for our natural resources to be available for future generations.

Electricity is generated from both renewable and nonrenewable energy sources.

Renewable energy sources:  Constantly renewed or restored and include wind (wind power), water (hydropower), sun (solar), vegetation (biomass), and internal heat of the earth (geothermal).  About 9.0 percent of electricity in the U.S. is generated from renewable sources.
Go green with this hydro calculator!  Powered with water or any liquid and requires no batteries.

Nonrenewable energy sources:  Natural resources that cannot be replenished (fossil fuels such as oil, gas, and coal).  About 71.5 percent of electricity in the U.S. is generated from nonrenewable sources.  In addition to renewable and nonrenewable energy sources, about 19.5 percent of electric power in the
U.S. is generated by nuclear power plants.  However, operating such plants poses significant nuclear waste disposal problems; consequently, there are no current plans to build more. Most electricity in the United 2 States is generated by burning nonrenewable fossil fuels and there is a limited amount of these energy sources.

Understanding Biodegradable

Biodegradable products have the ability to break down rather quickly and safely -  by biological measures -  into the raw materials of nature and dissipate into the environment.

Sustainable disposal of any product requires that its wastes are returned to the earth and able to biodegrade.  Nature biodegrades everything it makes back into basic building blocks, so that new living things can be made from the old.  Every resource made by nature returns to nature.  Nature has perfected this system.

Flat, handsome, and light, this item was the perfect choice to promote Timberland’s Green message in a two page Vanity Fair Magazine ad. The Timberland shoe company successfully sent our seeded paper postcards as an invitation to millions of readers of Vanity Fair magazine…”To help not only make someone’s day better, but also their environment”. The ad describes how “It is a little better than your average postcard” and suggests you send the card (which was sewn into the seam of the magazine and embedded with wildflower seeds) to a friend. We couldn’t agree more with the theme of the ad, which was….”Doing something better, is just better.”

What are you doing for EARTH DAY?

What does earth day mean to you? Is it of high importance? Will you do something special only on this particular day because you feel you have to?

Or is it just another ordinary day?

The fact that this issue is important enough to be elevated to a national day of recognition should be a good enough reason for you to take a closer look at how your current habits and actions are impacting the environment.

Now is the time to figure out and implement efforts you can enforce to protect our environment for not only this one day but every day of the year!

Research and encourage your family and friends to become familiar with and get involved in environmental education programs.

Identify areas in which you have strong interests. Strive to support or bring awareness to issues that have great personal importance to you or your particular community or surroundings.

Check out the National Environmental Directory http://www.environmentaldirectory.net/ for a directory of more than 13,000 organizations in the United States concerned with environmental issues and environmental education.

Get a head start. Early childhood education is crucial!

Right from the start, teach your children the importance of their role in helping to preserve and save not only our environment but the environment that will be their future!

Don’t miss this opportune time to really connect with your children. With spring right around the corner this is a wonderful time to plant some new bushes, trees or flowers! Educate children on the importance of saving our environment. Collaborate with teachers and faculty members to initiate a going green campaign at all local and surrounding area schools. Design fun yet informative flyers to distribute throughout the community to announce your new initiative. http://www.farfromboring.com/Promotional-Products/Eco-Friendly/Plants-and-Flowers/sc-609.html

Make recycling a way of life. Once the habit has been established it will be difficult to break. Listen and pay attention to what your children are most interested in doing. Work toward getting them directly involved to help support, maintain or improve causes that are important to them.

There are many worthwhile environmental agencies which connect people with nature. Use these resources to research and get educated on all the spectacular environmental efforts going on all around the world!

Green Tip: shop locally & buy organic
